RJO introduces new program at Spring Buying Show

The Retail Jewelers Organization focuses on personal and professional growth at this year's event.

(NEWTON, Iowa) - Retail Jewelers Organization (RJO) jewelers and manufacturers from around the country attended the exclusive Spring 2009 RJO Buying Show January 17-19, in San Antonio, Texas. The RJO Buying Show, held semi-annually, provides independent jewelers the opportunity to browse current fashions, network with other industry leaders and purchase jewelry at pre-negotiated prices.

"Attending the RJO Buying Show gives us the ability to stay on top of what is happening in the jewelry industry," said Terry Dickens, President of RJO and co-owner of Herteen & Stocker Jewelers in Iowa City, IA. "We attend not only to meet with our fellow retailers to gain industry knowledge, but to also take advantage of the competitive pricing associated with being a member of RJO. Everyone is keeping an eye on the economy these days and these are just a couple of benefits we receive by attending the Show."

This year's Show, themed "Absolutely Brilliant!", also kicked off a new program for members of the organization - The Peer Performance Program. This new program offers members the opportunity to be a part of a mastermind group of fellow jewelers to aid in their personal and professional growth. Mastermind groups, introduced by Napoleon Hill in his book "Think and Grow Rich," are based on the concept that two minds are better than one, but five to seven minds produce even more significant results.

Mary Peterson, CEO of RJO, stated: "The mastermind principal is that you interact in harmony with a small set of like-minded people from similar businesses, who bring their perspectives and talents to the group. This type of setting creates a synergy that fosters creative solutions to business or professional problems and aids in the progress toward your goals. In addition mastermind groups can be a source of great support and motivation during tough times." RJO believes this program can offer the independent jewelers a valuable resource and the ability to be in constant contact with what is going on in the industry.

RJO Shows always provide many opportunities for networking with peers.

 

Along with new programs, the show provided members with informative seminars and continuing education opportunities on several topics including business and economic trends, marketing effectively and motivating employees, among others. It also provided a needed avenue for members of the retail industry to come together, share ideas and rejuvenate for the year ahead.

"The RJO show isn't just about the jewelry; we bring together the best vendors and jewelers in the industry allowing them to network and discuss best business practices," said Peterson. "We want all of our members to have the tools to be good business people in each of their communities."

In 1966, RJO was founded by a small group of independent jewelers who joined together to command better vendor prices by buying collectively. Since that time, RJO has added hundreds of members, essential support programs and marketing services while remaining owned by its jeweler members.
