Alabama jeweler invents efficient laser welding wire dispenser

In an effort to save time and money and improve accuracy, Glenn Manning, president of Foley, Alabama-based Manning Jewelry, has developed a new, disposable laser welding wire dispenser - Speedwire.

Speedwire, Alabama jeweler Glenn Manning's laser welding wire dispenser, improves accuracy and saves time and money.

Speedwire comes pre-loaded with 5' or 10' of 28 or 30 gauge wire. The wire is housed in a sealed, see-through compartment in the rear of the device. It is fed through a stainless steel guide tube on the front of the device by a fingertip controlled roller.

To improve accuracy, the wire is supported by the stainless steel tube as close as 2mm from the weld, limiting the flexibility of the wire. This allows the jeweler to easily control the position of the wire. And, because the wire is fed out by fingertip control, it is not necessary for the jeweler to move their hands or the work piece. This saves time used in repositioning and refocusing.

Speedwire is color coded for metal type and clearly labeled with wire gauge and metal quality. The annealed coil of wire can easily be monitored preventing unexpected wire shortage. Additionally, an available 8-position stand keeps the patent pending Speedwire dispensers organized.
