Tanzanite Foundation and AGL launch the Tanzanite Grading Services

The Tanzanite Foundation (TF) and the American Gemological Laboratories (AGL) continue to grow their affiliation, as AGL becomes the third North American Laboratory to offer tanzanite grading in accordance with the Tanzanite Quality Scale™ (TQS).

Over 30 years ago AGL was the first laboratory to pioneer colored gemstone reports with the objective to promote and stimulate consumer confidence. Gabriella Endlin, Technical Director, Tanzanite Foundation states, “With this in mind, AGL and the TF share the same vision.  The TQS™ was developed to protect quality and price consistency, as well as allowing for direct comparability to aid consumer confidence in tanzanite purchasing. We are very excited about this collaboration.”

Christopher P. Smith, President of AGL and renowned gem expert stated: “I am very pleased that AGL and the Tanzanite Foundation are expanding on our collaborations. The Tanzanite Foundation has made great strides towards expanding the awareness and appreciation of this outstanding gemstone and AGL has long been a resource for high-quality gemstone reporting and an advocate of consumer protection.”

The Tanzanite Quality Scale™

The Tanzanite Quality Scale™ is the only specific international grading system to date for tanzanite. The Tanzanite Quality Scale™ grading Prestige Reports™ and FastTrack™ GemBriefs™ issued by AGL will provide the assurance that the tanzanite inspected is authentic and of natural origin, from the world’s only known tanzanite source situated in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa.
