The best time of the year

It’s here again! We’ve been preparing for this since January. It’s the culmination of all our new inventory selections, marketing campaigns, store display upgrades and staff training programs. We’re at the final push.

As the holidays approach and the cascade of excitement builds we’re filled with a cautious optimism about all the tantalizing possibilities the season offers. Will this year be better than last? Will that final Trunk Show be a record-breaker? What will be the new hottest best-sellers this season? The top sale?

It’s a time of year to also reflect on the true value of the season and all we have to be thankful for. We’re part of a profession that celebrates beauty and joy. We may as artists envision and design beautiful jewelry that enriches people’s lives. We help our clients choose that special gift to commemorate a birthday, anniversary or holiday their family will cherish for generations. We share in their joy and excitement.

We’re also part of a family of colleagues with common interests and values. We’ve forged relationships with many over the years that form a community of support and friendship. As entrepreneurs we may enjoy the pride of building a business and brand that will become our legacy. We cherish the freedom of autonomy, of “being our own boss,” creating and living our unique dream. It’s a time of the year to count our blessings.

The end of the year is also a transition to new beginnings. It’s a time of transformation. The Roman god Janus, from where we get the name January, is depicted as two-faced - one looking backward, one forward. As we reflect on the year past, we also look forward with anticipation to all a new year full of promise holds - greater expansion, new possibilities, fresh opportunities.

But actually, every moment is a transition. Each moment contains within it the seed of the future. We’re always on the cusp. The key is to not get so caught up in looking backward or forward that we lose the power of the present, the power of now. Those who are most fully alive, most fully awake, savor the richness of the moment. They don’t forget to stop and smell the roses. Each moment is precious. And it’s the succession of such powerful moments that make a life extraordinary.

Looking back on a full year, mindful of all we have to be grateful for, it’s a perfect time to also look forward to the unfolding of new, exciting and rewarding adventures on the horizon.

What will the future hold? Although its promise is yet untapped, we know we will have a hand in its creation. Wishing everyone a fantastic holiday season and wonderful New Year.
