(ATTLEBORO FALLS, Mass.) - MJSA, the association for jewelry makers and designers, has finalized the dates for its annual trade show, Expo New York. The event will take place March 11-13, 2012, once again at the Hilton New York, a convenient midtown location that’s near the jewelry and diamond districts.
Expo is the largest and longest-running show dedicated to professional excellence in jewelry making and design, whether at the wholesale or retail level. It features suppliers of the tools, equipment, products, and services needed to design, craft, customize, and execute well-made jewelry products. Whether a jeweler is designing in pencil and hand fabricating, or taking advantage of the latest advances in computer-aided design and manufacturing, Expo has suppliers that deliver.
The show can also assist non-technical jewelers who are experiencing a growing demand for custom design services, to connect with vendors offering a full complement of options. Expo exhibitors range from manufacturers that offer prototypes and the ability to alter their inventory quickly, to subcontractors who provide CAD/CAM and other customizing services.
“In every report you read on trends, it’s customization that’s driving the business with a new, post-recession generation of buyers,” says David W. Cochran, MJSA president and CEO. “MJSA Expo and its exhibitors provide the resources you need.”
In addition, MJSA buyers note that when exhibitors are at Expo, they’re there to provide on-the-spot assistance. “The vendors at Expo are different from at other shows - they really want to help you. You’re not just another person who’s walking by their booth,” observed Tom McLaughlin of Lennon’s Jewelers in Clay, New York. “They were all concerned about what I wanted, and answered all my questions - they were genuinely interested in helping me out. That’s not necessarily true at other shows. It’s why I come back to Expo.”
The Expo show team and Advisory Board are also busy planning for another event-filled three days of seminars and social events for 2012 to complement buying on the show floor. MJSA Expo’s comprehensive seminar program, buyers agree, generated part of the positive energy at the 2011 show. “The seminars were extremely helpful and I loved every one that I attended - and I only missed one!” says retailer Donna Wasilewski of The Seventh Stone in Coxsackie, New York.
A motivated committee of “in-the-know” industry veterans plan the seminars with the MJSA staff and editorial teams, based on the most important topics of interest among today’s jewelry makers and designers. In 2011, the seminars addressed hot topics such as how to work with subcontractors and alternative materials for making jewelry.
In addition to the seminars, Expo will host several of MJSA’s signature At the Bench Live sessions with leading designers and jewelry makers. “I thought the bench presentations by Ann Cahoon [of Boston-area Flying Marquis Studio] were wonderful and I attended both. I had a great time and really learned a lot of valuable information,” says Wasilewski.
Expo is also the place where MJSA honors the winners of its Thinking Ahead awards, which annually recognize products that make a difference in the way jewelry is made and sold, and its Vision Awards, which annually honor excellence in jewelry design and technical skill. Show management will also welcome various social events during Expo.
