Bulova commemorates 50 years of Accutron with Tuning Fork limited addition

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the revolutionary Accutron watch, Bulova has announced a limited edition re-creation of the legendary Spaceview model, complete with the distinctive skeleton-dial view of its landmark tuning fork movement.  Only 1,000 of these extraordinary timepieces will be produced, each individually numbered and accompanied by a specially designed display case with an official plaque attesting to its position in the limited production run.

Bulova is celebrating the 50th anniversary of their Accutron (the world’s first fully electronic watch) with this re-creation of the Spaceview model.
Introduced on October 25, 1960 as the first fully electronic watch, Bulova’s Accutron marked a fundamental change in the way the world told time, establishing the brand as the ultimate in precision timekeeping.

Because all the tooling for the original Accutron was destroyed in 1979, three years after it was last produced, the limited edition has been meticulously handcrafted with a stainless steel case, curved sapphire crystal and alligator strap.  Available to 1,000 lucky customers this fall, the watch will be on display at the Atlanta Jewelry Show in March.

As a worthy punctuation to the anniversary celebration, Bulova plans to unveil an exciting new technology later in March at the 2010 Baselworld.  With predictions that this innovation could rival the original Accutron in impact, this important advance will be included in a new line of watches set to be available this fall.
