If you’re a regular reader of Southern Jewelry News (SJN) then you probably know Elesa Dillon. The 20+ year industry veteran has made a name for herself by becoming SJN’s advertising guru.
Considered a mainstay at most trade shows, Dillon has been instrumental in the paper’s growth. Manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers find it easy to respond to her bright smile as she makes her way through exhibitor booths helping people put a face with the paper.
It all started with the Michaud Company where Elesa was involved in virtually every aspect of the business. She was working there with SJN co-owners Bill Newnam and Chris Smith when they decided to purchase Southern Jewelry News.
After publishing the paper for a year, Newnam and Smith invited Dillon to join the SJN team in 2001. She immediately took to heart the mission of promoting and advancing the business. She started selling ads and developing relationships for the paper that, today, have proven instrumental in laying the foundation for its current success.
“After working with Elesa for many years, Chris and I both knew she was a top flight salesperson,” said Newnam. “She connects with her customers like no other sales rep I’ve ever dealt with. Elesa is one of those people who have never met a stranger - she’s vivacious, energetic and just fun to be around. We’re lucky to have her.”
Dillon’s intimate knowledge of the industry and her deep dedication to the people in it is what really makes her special, and the rest of the industry has begun to take note of her as well.
In August of 2010 Elesa was recognized by the Mid America Jewelers Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award. That same month the Southern Jewelers Trade Association invited Elesa to join their Board of Directors. Dillon also serves on the Vendor Advisory Board with the Retail Jewelers Organization.
“I’ve always enjoyed being involved in promoting and marketing our paper because I believe what we do is very special,” Elesa remarks. “But I’ve also seen my role as more than just selling opportunity to advertisers. It’s also to be plugged in to this industry and to become an advocate for the promotion of jewelry and the people who’ve devoted their lives to it.”
Southern Jewelry News is proud to celebrate Elesa’s 10 years working on our team, as well as her recent industry awards.
“Elesa’s contributions have been invaluable to Southern Jewelry News and we’re happy to announce her promotion to Vice President of Sales,” remarks Chris Smith.
