(NEW YORK) - Jewelry Information Center (JIC), the consumer education arm of Jewelers of America, will hold its 12th annual GEM Awards gala – considered the “Academy Awards” of the fine jewelry industry – on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. GEM Awards will debut an exciting new format that will announce the winners live during the ceremony for three of its GEM Awards categories: Communications, Design and Media Excellence.
In keeping with GEM Awards’ great heritage, GEM Awards 2014 will also celebrate a Lifetime Achievement honoree.
“A GEM Award nomination is a remarkable honor and we are thrilled to formally recognize the nominees’ hard work and excellence in their fields,” says GEM Awards Chair Rachel Branch. “Similar to award shows like the Academy Awards, the live format will also add anticipation and excitement to the ceremony.”
The 2014 nominees are reviewed and selected by the GEM Awards committee. To determine the winners, a large distinguished panel of industry influencers will vote on the GEM Award nominees by secure and confidential ballots. To ensure the winners remain secret up until the live reveal, an external firm will tally the ballots and create the Winner Envelopes. The winners for Communications, Design and Media Excellence will remain completely confidential until they are revealed live during the GEM Awards ceremony.
