The Alabama Jewelers Association (AJA) announced the winners of its annual Design Competition conducted during the Alabama/Georgia Jewelers Associations’ joint Convention held recently in Sandestin, Florida.
Bill Wismar of Metal Benders in Mobile, Alabama was named Best of Show, as well as the People’s Choice Award winner for his hand-fabricated platinum necklace with matching chain, a 16.70 carat crystal opal, and 1.50 carats of diamonds.
Wismar was also awarded 1st Place in categories II and III. Category II was a pink and green tourmaline pendant made with palladium, and 18kt yellow gold, with diamond accents. Category III was the winning piece which took top honors as Best of Show and People’s Choice.

Robert Levy of Levy’s Fine Jewelry in Birmingham, Alabama was awarded 1st Place in Category I for his 3.14 carat oval rubellite mounted inside an 18 kt yellow gold hammered dome, with “roman” columns flanking each side, and displayed on a black steel cable necklace.
The Best of Show winner will represent the state of Alabama in the newly announced SJTA State Design Competition to be held during the Spring 2011 Atlanta Jewelry Show.
