On June 5, 2011, Jewelers for Children (JFC) held the 13th Annual Facets of Hope event in Las Vegas, newly relocated to the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The charity announced that more than $3 million had been raised to support their charity partners in the year ahead.“Since 1999, we have been all about making children’s lives better, and we’ve done a lot of that very thing,” said Edward Bridge, JFC board chair. “JFC is the industry’s charity and by being involved, you are helping us make a difference and achieve our mission of helping children in need.”
The evening began with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and the program.
During the program, the organization recognized Debra Puzio, Director of Jewelry Merchandising at QVC, and the Green family, Bob, Marc and John of Lux Bond & Green. Thirteen year old Sean spoke of his battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma and having his wish granted for a gaming laptop and to meet one of his heroes, Chef Barry Dakake. Suamhirs Rivera, representing the National CASA Association, produced his own video presentation shown at the event and spoke of the challenges he faced growing up in a broken home and the foster care system and how a CASA volunteer changed the direction of his life.
More than 1,550 industry guests attended the event, up 250 over the 2010 version.
Jewelers for Children was founded in 1999 by the U.S. jewelry industry with the mission of helping children in need. Since its inception, JFC has donated more than $37 million to programs benefiting children whose lives have been affected by illness, abuse, or neglect through charity partners St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the National CASA Association. JFC also provides support to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® International, and the Santa-America Fund. This nationwide success is due to the continuing generosity of jewelry trade organizations, jewelry and watch manufacturing companies, jewelry retail stores, individual jewelry professionals, and jewelry consumers.
