During this tough economic time, my sales have suffered quite a bit. This past Christmas was the worst I can ever remember. Thank goodness for the gift side of my business. In my jewelry store I do about 30% in the gift area (bridal registry and gift items), selling imported goods from China (alternative metals of several varieties), crystal stemware from France and Germany, and dinnerware from Spain, China, Japan, France and Portugal. Of course that's not to mention that all the stones set in every item in my store came from another country.
I sure hope my customers don't all of a sudden start asking me the question, "was this made in America" or I will surely not make it through another year.
I also don't want to see all those countries decide to stop buying things from America. It does go both ways... although of course America is always the biggest consumer of everything.
