“This was a successful and lively show for us. Foot traffic was solid and buzz on the show floor was exceedingly upbeat. We had 85 more exhibitors than last year’s Summer show - a sign that things are surely headed in a positive direction,” said Drew Lawsky, Group Show Director for JA New York. Attending retailers were there to conduct business and start buying for the all-important holiday season. Buyers were looking for new and different merchandise and design trends to rejuvenate their store shelves.
Michael Kravitz of MCR Gems noted, “This year there are more open-minded people and they are more interested in buying now. I have been coming to JA New York for 35 years because I believe the harder you work the luckier you get. Success breeds success.”
Always a show highlight, the New Designer Gallery showcased exciting new collections from this year’s featured ten new talents. Gregoré Morin of Gregoré Joailliers was awarded the 33rd annual Mort Albertson New Designer of the Year award for his one-of-a-kind handmade creations. He also was honored with first place for the AJDC New Talent Award making him only the 4th designer ever to earn both of these prestigious distinctions.
The Golden Apple Awards also recognized four outstanding designers for their exceptional marketing and promotional efforts. The four winners in each category are:
- Elements + Alloys - Golden Apple Award for Innovation for their creative and original marketing campaign which featured elements inspired by “the architecture of fine jewelry” and conveyed their minimal, modern aesthetic.
