Steady traffic, new business, industry design awards/events keep show-goers talking
(ATLANTA) - Busy aisles.. steady order-writing.. standing-room-only seminars.. must attend events... jewelry design competitions... The Atlanta Jewelry Show gave buyers and exhibitors plenty to talk about during the March 5-7, 2011 run. With attendance figures tracking evenly with the strong 2010 spring edition, exhibitor feedback from the show floor included reports of steady traffic, order-writing and new business.“The overall mood on the show floor was extremely positive,” said Carol Young, executive director, Southern Jewelry Travelers Association (SJTA), producers of the Atlanta Jewelry Show. “Exhibitors were pleasantly surprised by the uptick in order-writing. Buyers were especially pleased with the new designs they discovered from the show’s growing product roster, including a record number of first-time exhibitors.”
Bringing together more than 500 companies showcasing the latest introductions, emerging companies and classic best-sellers in virtually every category, the March show delivered strong business results for exhibitors.
“I decided to exhibit in the Atlanta Jewelry Show to re-establish business relationships with Southeastern jewelers and I am thrilled with the results,” said first-time exhibitor, Maria Ellefson, owner, Mysterium Collection, who had moved her company headquarters from New Orleans to Las Vegas in recent years. “Not only am I exceeding the business goals I set for the show, but I have also been delighted with the level of customer service and the welcoming attitude of the SJTA management team.”
“The show has been fantastic for us,” commented Robert Smith, president, Kameleon. “We’ve been very pleased with the steady business and with the amount of new customers we’re seeing here.”

1st Annual Torch Awards Competition
To showcase the design talents of bench jewelers/designers across the nation, the Atlanta Jewelry Show hosted the first annual Torch Awards Design Competition. All state jewelry associations were invited to participate by submitting the winners of their own 2010 state-wide design competitions. Entries were on display during the show and attending buyers voted to select the winners.

Sublime Design: SCAD/Atlanta Jewelry Show Student Design Competition
For the seventh year in a row, The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) partnered with the Atlanta Jewelry Show and Stuller, Inc. to host the SJTA Student Design Competition. This year’s competition showcased the most innovative jewelry designs yet from the SCAD students, who could submit their entries in four unique categories - rings, necklaces, bracelets and brooches. Chris Ploof, Chris Ploof Design Studio, served as Guest Judge for the 2011 competition and spoke at length to the students about career expectations, as well as the creative energy that inspires designers today.
SJTA U Educational Offerings
A full-scale educational program also drew retailers looking for tips and strategies to stay strong in today’s economic climate. Among the most popular programs was the keynote address, “Making A Name For Yourself,” led by Scott “Nametag Guy” Ginsburg. Other programs touched on a wide range of topics, including appraisals, CAD/CAM, visual merchandising strategies, and benefiting from repairs and custom designs as a profit center. A special presentation on the future goals and plans of GIA was led by Donna Baker, President and CEO of GIA, in her inaugural visit to the Atlanta Jewelry Show.
New Exhibitor Meet & Greet
Another popular show feature for buyers and exhibitors alike, the New Exhibitor Meet & Greet was held on Sunday morning, March 6 in the Registration Concourse. As part of the show’s complimentary Buyer Breakfast, this event gives retailers the chance to discover and meet the show’s newest members as they led brief presentations on the products their company featured during the show.
Club Elite & SJTA Rewards
The SJTA Rewards program continues to offer participants access to millions of reward selections, including the very latest in popular, brand-name merchandise, the hottest event tickets and a completely revamped travel experience. As a result, the program continues to attract new participants who benefit from earning SJTA Reward points on every order they place at the show. The Gala - Motown in the ATL
On Sunday evening, March 6, retailers and exhibitors gathered at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel to celebrate the music, fashion and style of the Motown era. During the Motown in the ATL evening, attendees enjoyed food, live music and dancing to the tunes made famous by The Jackson Five, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Marvin Gaye and other legends.
