For more than a decade the Jewelers Educational Conference & Show (JEC) has introduced Mid-America jewelers to an outstanding keynote speaker who was new to the industry, but well known in other areas of the business world. The 2012 Conference, which is being held in Overland Park, KS on March 16-18, continues that tradition by inviting Louie Gravance to open the conference and also present one of the three featured seminars. Gravance, a founding facilitator and program designer for the Walt Disney University’s Professional Development Program, will open the conference by sharing many of the “secrets” that he has introduced to management teams at Disney, Bank of America, Mutual of Omaha, ING Financial and BMW. His topic is, “It’s Not What You Are Willing to Do – It Is What You Are Willing to Be!”In addition to Gravance, other JEC keynote presenters include industry leaders Terry Chandler (Diamond Council of America) discussing “Representing The Integrity of Your Store;” Richard Drucker (Gemworld International) “The Myths, The Truths, The Pitfalls, & The Profit of Appraising;” Darwin Copeman (Jewelers Mutual Insurance) “What If: Mistakes Jewelers Have Made;” Lynn Baldwin (EDGE Retail Academy) “Breaking The Endless Cycle of Too Much Old Stock;” and Kate Peterson (Palladium Alliance International) “Working With & Selling Palladium.”
Every attending jeweler will have face to face time, and opportunities to question the moderators of the three featured seminars about their comprehensive experience in a phase of selling that is a key to building and/or maintaining a successful jewelry store. The three moderators and their area of expertise are:
• Louie Gravance will follow his keynote presentation by sharing much of the advice that he has provided as an advisor and consultant to some of the most customer friendly companies in the world. Combining his background as an actor and teacher, as well as his experience in helping create “Streetmosphere” for Disney World employees. Gravance goes beyond the ordinary in showing retail jewelers how to, and why it is mandatory to “Provide Consistent Quality Service.”
• Shane O’Neill, the Director of Social Marketing for Fruchtman Marketing, brings almost 20 years of creative and marketing experience to a session that will show how various social and digital media strategies work in tandem with traditional marketing to drive traffic, create an audience, and produce a customer. An advanced look at where we’ve been, where we’re going, and how social integration affects your business strategy will provide you options on “How to Integrate Traditional and New Media to Create Focused Marketing Strategies!”
• Janice Mack Talcott, a contract mentor for The Edge Retail Academy, has bridged international borders working as a consultant and trainer with jewelers across North America, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Her JEC presentation will look beyond the usual as she shares her experiences in “Clienteling: Building Lasting Relationships.”
Tabbed as the “Right Next Door” Conference & Show because it was created to serve the needs of traditional neighborhood jewelry stores, the JEC is conveniently located in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. Although all independent retail jewelers are welcome, most attendees will drive no more than an hour to five hours to park without charge at the Overland Park Marriott.
