Paul Brockhaus, president of the Oklahoma Jewelers Association (OJA) has announced that the agenda for the Association’s 2012 Convention - to be held August 24-26 at the Oklahoma City Marriott Hotel - will include social events and educational programs for every member of a retail jewelry store’s staff – owners, managers, sales associates, bench jewelers and even family.
Brockhaus said that jewelers and vendors are encouraged to arrive early and join the fun at a back yard barbecue competition, on Friday evening, and help determine which of the Association’s members has provided the most scrumptious barbecue.
Saturday’s schedule begins with an evening Gala, featuring displays by many of the industry’s premier suppliers, a variety of food stations, a musical program showcasing the popular Buddy Billen Band, a “Dance With the Pros” closing and a network of veteran retail jewelers.
Sunday is the get serious learning day. The Association, with the support of its sponsors, Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, Lashbrook Design and the Palladium Alliance International (PAI), is bringing two extensive programs to jewelers from the Southwest.
Jim Ackerman, a speaker, author and recognized marketing coach will bring store owners and sales associates a wide assortment of ideas on “How To Get More Customers, Who Will Pay More Money, More Often.”
Concurrently bench jewelers and possibly some store owners will be meeting with consultants from the PAI, Chris Ploof and Linus Drogs. In addition to their consulting work with PAI, Ploof is a bench and fabrication expert and the owner of Chris Ploof Designs in Pawtucket, RI. Drogs is a casting expert and the owner of Au Enterprises, a world class casting house near Detroit. The title for their three plus hour workshop is “Bench Wizardry & Profit Magic: Creating & Working With Palladium.”
