The Mississippi Jewelers Association (MJA) held its 63rd annual Convention in June at the Whispering Woods Resort in Olive Branch, MS.  Olive Branch (just outside Memphis, TN) is considered to be the fastest growing city in America and association members had the opportunity to visit and learn about the northwest part of Mississippi.

MJA-AugA fun filled weekend allowed members to enjoy great BBQ, music and southern cuisine. Seminars were presented by Lenny Prion, Head of Education for Abbott & Shapiro, LLC (The Edge).  The annual MJA fund raiser raised money for the Winston Relief Disaster Fund, a fund created for the county that was devastated by tornadoes on April 28th, killing 10 people in Louisville, MS.

Johnny Snow, President of MJA for the past two years, turned over the office to the new President, Terry McMullin during the annual banquet. During the banquet, Jimmy Patterson of Patterson Jewelers - and last year’s winner of the coveted “Jeweler of the Year 2013” - presented Randy Arnett of Randy Arnett Jewelers with the “Jeweler of the Year 2014” award.

Newly elected officers include: 1st Vice President, Mary Snow, The Jewel Shoppe, The Diamond Store, Louisville, MS; 2nd Vice President, David Kux, Kux Jewelers, Laurel, MS; and Secretary/Treasurer, Steven LaBiche, LaBiche Jewelers, Meridian, MS. Newly appointed Board Members include:  Wayne Britt, Britt Jewelers, Cleveland, MS; Randy Arnett, Randy Arnett Jewelers, Clarksdale, MS; Jane Leary, Smith Jewelry, Brookhaven, MS; Nancy King, Lammons Jewelry, Oxford, MS; George Harris, Crossroads Jewelers, Winona, MS; and Johnny Snow, Past President, The Jewel Shoppe, The Diamond Store, Louisville, MS.

The MJA is very grateful to all of their sponsors who each year help make their convention not only a place to learn and be with friends, but also a place where jewelers can network.  The MJA is moving forward and hopes to not only be a source for other jewelers in the state of Mississippi, but also encourage professionalism in the industry throughout the state.
