"We are pleased with all the positive comments regarding the vibe on the show floor, the new show features and seminars offered during the Summer Show, as well as the feedback on the caliber of talent of our designers this year," says Drew Lawsky, JA New York Show Group Director. "The jewelry industry needed something to inspire confidence back in the marketplace, and I'm proud to say the JA New York Summer Show played an integral part in showing everyone that business will definitely happen if presented with the right opportunities like the ones we offered."
JA New York's new designLAB offered exhibitors a social and collaborative atmosphere. 18 designers chosen by JA New York Show management shared exhibiting space with each other where they were able to highlight their best pieces to retailers and media. "The designLAB provided a way for me to showcase my collection in an exciting environment surrounded by an eclectic group of designers," said Sara Freedenfeld from Amali Jewelry. "There was a great buzz and an excited energy."
The "Industry in The Round Pavilion" was also well received. The Pavilion attracted buyers who were looking for the latest and most innovative tools and machines for manufacturing and retail stores. "The retail buyers were upbeat and came to purchase," said Daniel B Morris of American Jewelry Supply. "Interest in ultrasonic, steamers, scales and testers were better then in recent years, showing a drastic improvement."
Industry leaders and press previewed the collections of the 10 designers showcased at the New Designer Gallery and voted for the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year. Manya Tessler of Manya & Roumen was voted the 2009 winner of the prestigious award. Leila Tai was awarded with a Michael Good-designed sculpture, honoring her as the grand-prize winner of the AJDC 2009 New Talent Award.
In addition to the new designers, all of the veteran JA New York Summer Show exhibitors had magnificent pieces. "There are so many great exhibitors here and the excellent offerings make it so hard for me to choose," Rob Setton, a buyer from EK Replacement Co., said. "Every piece I saw was tasteful and elegant."
Also returning as a staple at the JA New York Show was America's Best Jewelers. The peer-to-peer program gave retailers access to key business practices that translate into high achievement and success in the retail jewelry business. Several retailers attended this free seminar where they learned information on Speed Inventory Turn and Managing your Web Presence, which was followed by the invite only award ceremony for the 2009 America's Best Jewelry Awards, where 27 Couture category retailers received recognition.
The Summer Show also prepared retailers for today's marketplace by offering several key marketing sessions and educational seminars throughout the show that were taught by key industry professionals in the JA Retail Learning Center conveniently located on the show floor.
"This seminar was a great opportunity to learn how to turn a browsing customer into a customer who will buy," said a retailer regarding the Recession Proof Your Sales seminar.
