(LAS VEGAS) – The Beatles stayed there on their first visit to the United States, and it’s where Truman Capote hosted his famous Black and White Ball. The Plaza Hotel in New York City is synonymous with iconic hotels, so much so that it was even home to a literary character, the precocious Eloise.  The American Gem Society (AGS) is about to become a part of that history with the announcement that The Plaza Hotel will be the location for the next Circle of Distinction Dinner, Sunday, July 25, 2010.

The Circle of Distinction Dinner honors individuals who have distinguished themselves by their level of dedication and commitment to the jewelry industry, and pays tribute to honorees in three categories: the AGS Lifetime Achievement Award, the AGS Triple Zero Awards, and the Richard T. Liddicoat Journalism Award.

“The award recipients truly embrace and promote the Robert M. Shipley mission of setting, maintaining, and promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional behavior,” said Ruth Batson, Executive Director and CEO of AGS. Batson also noted that next year’s award recipients would be announced in the spring of 2010.

The event will mark the first year that the Circle of Distinction Dinner will be held at The Plaza Hotel. “The Plaza has a rich history and evokes the best-of-the-best. It’s the ideal venue for the American Gem Society and the Circle of Distinction Dinner,” said Batson.  “Following a one-year hiatus, we are thrilled to bring our event to such an iconic setting as the Plaza.”

Some of the past Lifetime Achievement award recipients are: Robert Crowningshield, Ron Harder, John J. Kennedy, Richard T. Liddicoat, Nathan Light, Mike Roman, Matthew Runci, Matthew Stuller and Alfred Woodill.
