(PANAMA CITY, Panama) – The International Gemological Institute (IGI) and the Panama Diamond Exchange (PDE) conducted a week of successful educational and grading activities in the country’s capital city.
Leaders from IGI and PDE welcomed Panamanian jewelers on October 25 for an in-depth seminar on diamond grading, providing an educational foundation on the importance of independent grading reports. IGI President and CEO Jerry Ehrenwald, G.G., A.S.A. led the seminar with Sergio Merizalde, manager of IGI’s Dominican Republic laboratory. The session, which was well attended with highly-engaged participants, closed with a very active Q&A period.Following the seminar, IGI operated a laboratory on-site at the Panama Diamond Exchange for the full work week. Offering its full range of independent grading services, the Institute hosted a steady flow of jewelers and manufacturers. At the conclusion of the week, IGI made arrangements with multiple organizations to continue providing services via mail with the Institute’s complimentary submission kits.
The organizations’ efforts were widely welcomed by the local industry and multiple Panamanian print and television outlets reported on IGI’s visit. Based on the success of these events, IGI has committed to offering its polished diamond course in Panama in March.
“IGI’s visit to Panama was extremely positive and productive,” noted Ehrenwald. “We are grateful for the strong support PDE President Erez Akerman has shown our efforts in Panama and will continue to build relationships and make future plans in this important area for our industry.”
