(NEW YORK) - After an “extremely strong” opening day on Sunday, the JA New York Spring show proudly reported high-attendance momentum throughout the three day show. The co-location with MJSA and Lueur, a successful hosted buyer program, as well as the newly established March dates, were all contributing factors to the busy show floor.

West Point legacy lives on at 16th annual Ring Melt Ceremony

(WARWICK, R.I.) - Fifty-four class rings were donated this year to the West Point Association of Graduates 16th Annual Ring Melt Ceremony. The February 22nd ceremony was held at the Rhode Island refinery, Pease & Curren. The rings, from classes ranging from 1914 to 1984, were melted into a solid gold bar that will be incorporated into the gold used to create the rings for West Point’s Class of 2017. All of the Class of 2017’s rings will contain not only part of this year’s donations, but also a portion of all of the rings donated since the Ring Melt Program’s inception with the Class of 2002. The annual Ring Melt is a tangible way to reaffirm the bond between today’s cadets and their distinguished predecessors.

Chinese mainland seen as promising market for rare stone from Africa

The blue-violet tanzanite gemstone embodies a romantic and mysterious charm that captivates global consumers. At present, the Chinese mainland and the United States are the world’s largest markets for the gem, which is only found in Tanzania. Tanzanite was the focus of a seminar held in March at the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). During the seminar, a Tanzanite Foundation representative offered analysis of the development of tanzanite markets and spoke about the intrigue of the precious gemstone.

Alabama & Georgia jewelers return to Marriott Grand National April 1-3

AJA MarchThe state associations of Alabama and Georgia invite all retail jewelers and suppliers to the 2016 annual co-hosted convention at Marriott’s Grand National Resort & Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Opelika, Alabama. “Our attendees had a great experience in Opelika last year, and requested a return. We hope more jewelers from Alabama and Georgia join us in April because this type of event and quality education doesn’t come close-to-home very often,” said Danny Clarke, President, Alabama Jewelers Association.
