Danish Design, an internationally recognized watch manufacturer producing contemporary style watches since 1988, received international recognition for their Scandinavian styled watches, characteristic of simple, elegant, unobstructed lines. Most recently their model IQ12Q723 won the Red Dot Award in 2008, making them a leader in forward, modern watch design.
Model IQ12Q723 was designed by Martin Larsen and represents everything Danish Design strives for: modern, simple, sculptural time pieces produced with exceedingly high quality products at affordable prices. This particular piece displays hours, minutes, seconds and date with a quartz analogue. The case is made of durable matted stainless steel and is 40 mm in diameter and 7.6 mm thick. This watch is water-resistant to 30 meters and carries a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass front. The strap is genuine leather with the Danish Deign logo in the strap.
The Red Dot Award is an international design competition aimed at distinguishing products based upon excellence in design as chosen by competent expert juries in the areas of product design, communication design and design concepts. Red Dot winners are afforded inclusion in international award presentations, Red Dot Design Yearbooks, exhibitions in museums in Germany and Singapore and much more.
Model IQ12Q273 was also nominated for the Designpreis 2009, another design award from the Federal Republic of Germany which carries the country’s highest distinction in the field of design. Known as the ‘Prize of Prizes;’ this award sets the highest standard of strict criteria only allowing entries by companies who have already been awarded national or international design prizes. Entries must also be nominated by the Ministries and Senators of the Federal States or Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
Although the company has been in business 17 years, their entry into the US jewelry market is fairly new. With more than 650 different styles of product located in 64 countries, the US was one of the last jewelry markets they joined. Their approach to watch design is one of their most distinguishing features. Employing designers who’ve graduated with secondary degrees in art; Danish Design focuses on bridging modern art and watch design to fill a niche market that is often underserved.
Currently they have product in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and at the Danish Immigrant Museum in Iowa and have orders for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You can find Danish Design at various trade shows including JCK Las Vegas.
