(NEW YORK) - The International Gemological Institute (IGI) announced plans to move its New York offices to the coveted Fred F. French building – located at 551 Fifth Ave. between 46th and 45th streets – on Dec. 1, 2012.

The Institute, previously located at 589 Fifth Ave., will move both its administrative staff and laboratory. IGI’s new location will continue to offer cutting-edge services – including the latest in gemological technology and equipment – enabling IGI to expand its New York operation to service its ever-increasing client base that includes major retail jewelry chains, stores throughout the United States and Internet-based organizations.

Built in 1927, the French building is a midtown Manhattan historic landmark with many high-profile companies and business leaders as tenants.

“This is an exciting move and a testament to IGI’s continued growth,” said IGI President and CEO Jerry Ehrenwald. “As consumer and retailer demand for independent diamond and gemstone certification continues to rise, we look forward to further success in our new, state-of-the-art facility.”

IGI is an independent, worldwide organization – consisting of graduate gemologists and accredited gem and jewelry appraisers – that provides a full range of services including objective and accurate grading, identification and appraisal reports of gemstones and fine jewelry, as well as gemological educational courses through IGI’s over 30-year-old School of Gemology. IGI’s offerings also include Laserscribe®, a U.S.-patented diamond laser inscription service that inscribes report numbers, custom messages and/or brand names; and the IGI Registration and Recovery Service®, which catalogs articles of jewelry in IGI’s database, enabling the Institute to issue notifications in the event of loss, theft or requests for an updated report.
