(NEW YORK) - Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry retail marketplace, has announced new additions to its staff and strategic changes to current departments.
The association has hired Matthew Tratner as Director of Membership & Sales. In this newly created position, Tratner will oversee the operations of the Membership Department, including membership development and retention. Tratner brings to JA a background in jewelry sales that gives him an understanding of the needs and challenges of both JA’s retail and supplier members. Previously, he was COO and Partner at GemsAround.com, a designer jewelry e-commerce website, where his responsibilities included overseeing production and developing relationships with designer brands. Prior to that, he spent seven years in sales and operations at Maya J Diamond Jewelry, a New York-based diamond jewelry manufacturer. Tratner is also a GIA Accredited Jewelry Professional.
“I am excited to be joining Jewelers of America, an association with such a stellar reputation among the jewelry trade. I look forward to strengthening, supporting and growing its diverse retail and supplier network of the most professional jewelry businesses in the industry,” says Tratner.
“Matt’s enthusiasm and industry background made him the ideal candidate to help Jewelers of America strategically expand membership while being responsive to the needs of our existing members. The ongoing support and satisfaction of existing members and the continued growth of membership are vital to accomplishing Jewelers of America’s mission to promote consumer confidence in the jewelry industry,” says JA President & CEO David J. Bonaparte.
In addition, the association has hired Lauren Kalma as Public Relations & Marketing Coordinator. In this position, Kalma will help expand JA’s - and its members’ - brand presence through PR outreach and the association’s web and social media platforms. Kalma has been learning about the industry during a year-long internship in JA’s Communications and Marketing departments. She is a 2013 graduate of Iona College with a B.A. in Mass Communication and a focus in Public Relations.
With the new additions to JA’s staff, the association has also restructured some departments and existing staff responsibilities:
- Molly Fallon’s title has changed from Director of Marketing & Membership to Director of Marketing & Communications.
- Amanda Gizzi’s title has changed from Director of Communications to Director of Public Relations & Special Events.
- Susan Thea Posnock is now Director of Public Affairs & Education.
- Madeline Rivera is taking on the new role of Member Services Representative; she previously held the position of Office & Human Resources Associate.
