SJTA honors SCAD Student Design Competition winners at Atlanta Jewelry Show

(ATLANTA) - Winners of the annual Student Design Competition hosted by The Atlanta Jewelry Show and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) were announced at an awards presentation held March 7 during the Atlanta Jewelry Show.  Jewelry designer and special guest judge Wayne Werner presented the awards, which were given in four categories: Art Jewelry, Alternative Materials, CAD/CAM/RP and Sustainable, as well as the top people’s choice award - Best in Show.

Themed “SCAD In Progress,” the competition brought together a lovely array of entries in a versatile range of media, styles and designs. Co-sponsored by Stuller, Inc. the sixth annual competition continues the tradition of recognizing the outstanding work of SCAD design students while also providing budding jewelry designers with an inside look at the commercial jewelry industry.  Winners included:

Alternative Materials & Processes

  • 1st Place – Kelsey Courage
  • 2nd Place – Meredith Sutton
  • 3rd Place – Yumi Kim

  • 1st Place – Rong Rong
  • 2nd Place – BongSang Cho
  • 3rd Place – Rebecca Fahrner

CAD/CAM/RP

  • 1st Place – Dianne Johnson
  • 2nd Place – Katherine Glazewicki
  • 3rd Place Terran Sapp

Sustainable Jewelry

  • 1st Place – Rebecca Fahrner
  • 2nd Place – Ryan Justin Holandes
  • 3rd Place – Alex Hossick

“Each year we are amazed by the stunning designs these talented students create,” explains Carol Young, executive director, SJTA, producers and managers of the Atlanta Jewelry Show.  “This year, in particular, generated the largest voting response from the show floor as well - the Best in Show ballot box was simply overflowing.  On behalf of all of us at the Atlanta Jewelry Show, we salute all of the talented artists who participated in the competition and know that we will be seeing and hearing more from each of them in the future.”

The annual SCAD Student Design Competition is open to currently matriculated students and alumni from SCAD.  This year’s entries were judged by a panel of experts, including industry designers, retail jewelry store owners, SCAD faculty and guest judge Wayne Werner.
