26th consecutive ‘A+ Superior’ rating from A.M. Best propels Jewelers Mutual into its centennial year

(NEENAH, Wis.) - A.M. Best Company recently announced that it has assigned a 26th consecutive financial strength rating (FSR) of “A+ Superior” to Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, which in 2013 is celebrating its 100th year in business. The insurer specializes exclusively in providing protection to jewelry businesses and jewelry consumers. It has upheld its “A+ Superior” designation throughout a period spanning the past quarter of a century.

JSA celebrates 130th anniversary and honors two industry leaders

(NEW YORK CITY) - On Saturday, January 12, 2013, the Jewelers’ Security Alliance (JSA) celebrated its 130th anniversary at a luncheon at the Pierre Hotel in New York attended by 150 jewelry industry and law enforcement leaders.

Adam Heyman of Oscar Heyman & Brothers, the newly elected Chairperson of JSA, described some of the recent evidence of JSA’s success. He pointed out the large decline in dollar losses in 2012 resulting from crimes against U.S. jewelry firms; a decline in homicides of jewelers; the arrests of large numbers of criminals attacking the jewelry industry; and the very large JSA membership of over 23,000 locations.

Fetters named Chairman of Federated Insurance Companies

Jeffrey E. Fetters was named Chairman of the Federated Insurance Companies at the 2012, meeting of the Companies’ Board of Directors, effective December 1, 2012. Fetters will assume the duties of Chairman in addition to his current responsibilities as President and Chief Executive Officer. He replaces Albert T. Annexstad, who served as Chairman for 12 years before retiring and being named Chairman Emeritus.

AGTA names Danielle Pelletiere Marketing Manager

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) has announced that Marketing and Sales Coordinator, Danielle Pelletiere, will be taking over the position of Marketing Manager, effective January 21st.

Pelletiere received her BSBA in Marketing and a minor in Public Relations from the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Prior to working with AGTA, Pelletiere was employed at Neiman Marcus. She then took on the Sales and Marketing Coordinator position at AGTA where she concentrated on sales and editorial content. In doing so, she doubled ad sales in her first year with AGTA and took on all editorial control of the electronic newsletter, ePRISM.

NAJA announces 2012 Scholarship winner

The National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) announced the winner of the 2012 ACE© It Conference Scholarship to attend the 39th Annual ACE© It Winter Educational Conference scheduled on February 3 - 4, 2012, in Tucson AZ.

Ms. Kim Pascarella, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, is the 2012 winner of the annual scholarship.  Ms. Pascarella is a current home study student at the Gemological Institute of America.  Her jewelry journey started as a retail sales associate with a large corporate company. She is currently the General Manager at Joe DiMaggio Jewelers with a rich variety of responsibilities. Ms. Pascarella says, “I love this job. I’m passionate about our clients and this trade.” 

LeachGarner acquires Findings, Inc., Fuller Findings

LeachGarner has reported they successfully completed the purchase of the Findings Incorporated and Fuller Findings businesses from Findings Incorporated. These businesses will now operate as an integral part of the General Findings division of LeachGarner, a Berkshire Hathaway Company.
