JA announces nominees for 2016 GEM Awards, names Lifetime Achievement winner

(NEW YORK) - Jewelers of America (JA), the national trade association for businesses serving the fine jewelry marketplace, has announced the 2016 GEM Award nominees for the categories of Jewelry Design, Media Excellence and the newest category, Watch Design. Additionally, JA has named Joe Thompson, editor-in-chief of WatchTime magazine the winner of the prestigious GEM Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The winners of all categories will be announced live during the GEM Awards ceremony on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. The GEM Awards annual gala, considered the “Academy Awards” of the jewelry industry, honors individuals and brands whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches.

Deborah Finleon named Associate Director of NAJA

NAJA OctThe National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) is pleased to announce that Deborah J. Finleon, GIA GG, Certified Master Appraiser, was named as Associate Director, Chair of Education.

Ms. Finleon was lead editor of the newly revised NAJA Home Study Appraisal Course that was unveiled to the membership at the 44th ACE© It Mid-Year Conference held in Washington, D. C., on August 8 - 11. Her primary responsibility will be to update and keep current the Home Study Course and oversee the development of the online appraisal course. Secondary responsibilities will be to assist NAJA Executive Director Gail Brett Levine in course development, conference proceedings and other administrative functions.

The GEM Awards annual gala, considered the “Academy Awards” of the jewelry industry, honors individuals and brands whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches.

JBT President Dione Kenyon to retire

JBTDione Kenyon has announced to the Jewelers Board of Trade (JBT) Executive Committee her plans to retire from JBT, with a time frame dependent on transitioning her replacement, in 2016.

At that time, she will complete 14 years as JBT President, 25 years of service to JBT, beginning as a Board Director in 1991; and 40 years of leadership positions in credit, finance and marketing primarily in the diamond and jewelry industry. Ms. Kenyon has also served on industry boards, including WJA, GIA, JVC, the 24 Karat Club of New York, and as the first woman President of the Boston Jewelers Club.
