On July 28-29 the Mississippi Jewelers Association (MJA) held their 61st annual Convention in Gulfport, MS. The MJA strives to move the Convention to different sites in the state to enable jewelers to experience Mississippi’s diversity.
Many of the jewelers arrived on July 27 to take part in the Friday evening dining experience. The MJA referred to the weekend of dining experiences as “The Trilogy” - which consisted of three restaurants the Food Network’s Guy Fieri had visited. According to the MJA, all three restaurants “stood the test - they were wonderful!”
Lynn Baldwin of The Edge Retail Academy provided insightful and thought provoking seminars regarding inventory, management techniques and the future of the jewelry industry and how to chose to be a part of it.
On the recreation front, members visited the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs, played golf and enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Mississippi.
At the 61st Convention Banquet, Paul Patterson of Patterson Jewelers (Kosciusko) turned over the Presidency to Johnny Snow, owner of The Jewel Shoppe, Louisville. Other Executive Board members include: 1st Vice President, Terry McMullin, Master Jewelers, Olive Branch; 2nd Vice President, Teresa LaBiche, LaBiche Jewelers (retired), Meridian; and Secretary-Treasurer, Betsy Murrell, Selman’s Jewelers-Gemologist, McComb. Terry Leary, owner of Smith Jewelry in Brookhaven received the Jeweler of the Year award.
