(RICHMOND, Va.) - One dozen of Richmond’s finest jewelers banded together to create the 2nd Annual Jewels for a Cure raffle held during VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) Massey Cancer Center’s annual Women & Wellness Forum Series. The event featuring author and cancer survivor, Geralyn Lucas, was well attended at both breakfast and lunch seatings.
The 2012 Jewels for a Cure raffle raised $13,000 in donations to VCU Massey Cancer Center. Guests, who purchased raffle tickets for $25 each, vied to win one of the twelve pieces of fine jewelry donated by Richmond independent retail jewelers.
“We’re thrilled with the results and would like to thank all of the jewelers for their generosity and willingness to work together. It’s very rare to have so many competing firms working together to support a common cause,” said Becky Massey, vice chair of the VCU Massey Cancer Center Advisory Board
The brainchild of Richmond jeweler and raffle chair, Cheryl Fornash, the Jewels for a Cure raffle has raised over $27,000 for cancer research in the 2 years it’s been a part of the event.
The participating jewelers include Adolf Jewelers, Capri Jewelers, Cheryl Fornash Jewelers, Cowardin’s Jewelers, Davis Jewelry, Dransfield Jewelers, Fink’s Jewelers, Jack Kreuter Jewelers, MacLaren Jewelers, Peter Alexander Jewelers, Schwarzschild Jewelers and Victoria Charles Jewellery. The donated items, all with a retail value of $1,500, included a one-of-a-kind sterling silver, 14k yellow gold and pearl necklace; several pieces by designer Charles Krypell, an Alwand Vahan bracelet, a strand of cultured Akoya pearls, a John Hardy pendant and a Color Story pendant with matching earrings.
