(ERLANGER, Ky.) - By partnering with Insignia Collection, a division of Jewel-Craft, Inc., jewelry designers’ unique creations can be translated from concept sketch to finished piece. This service allows small, boutique designers to leverage the manufacturing technologies and expertise of an experienced jeweler that might not otherwise be available. One of the first designers to take advantage of this service is Tom Kohl, who uses Insignia Collection to produce his line of patented Kohl Style Rings. “Uniquely designed - from the inside out,” the rings feature an oval-shaped shank, which incorporates a comfort fit contour on the inside, along with raised curves that lock the ring in place on the finger. The shape fits fingers more naturally while enhancing comfort and security and accommodating fluctuations in finger size.
“Tom Kohl came to us to help him manufacture and market three styles of solitaire engagement rings, as well as bridal rings, wedding bands, and half-shanks for use in repairing or modifying existing rings,” says Gary Wesdorp, president and CEO of Jewel-Craft. “Further, we are currently working with Tom on new ring and mandrel designs, as well as creating a custom ring sizer for this product. To help him, and other designers, market their custom pieces, Insignia Collection features these designs at various tradeshows, giving the line and the designer additional exposure among retailers and potential customers. Insignia Collection will produce all the jewelry that is ordered by retailers for their showcases and their customers.”
“This service gives every designer - from the novice to the experienced professional - access to high-quality production methods that are supported by experienced jewelers who can help them realize their jewelry design ideas,” notes Russ Anderson, president of Insignia Collection. “We can produce a single sample prototype, or create multiples of the same piece to fill orders. There is no minimum order quantity required.”
Insignia Collection’s design team uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) software technology to first generate a realistic, full-color, three-dimensional rendering of the designer’s sketch. Upon approval of the design, the company employs one of several different technologies to produce either a metal or wax model of the piece. Hand carving is also an option. The cast piece is then prepped, set, and finished in-house.
All of the services from Insignia Collection, including custom CAD/CAM designs, are available 52 weeks a year, allowing the company to provide expedited service nationwide. The company employs designers, expert jewelers, setters, and finishers among their full staff of more than 150 employees.
