JA and JFC raise over $100,000 for Haiti relief

(NEW YORK) - In January, Jewelers of America (JA) and Jewelers for Children (JFC) urged members of the jewelry trade to join them in donating funds to support Haiti relief efforts. The associations pledged to match contributions made between January 15th and 25th, at JFC’s website (www.jewelersforchildren.org), up to a total of $30,000. Due to the industry’s generous response, after only ten days of donations, the organizations had raised a total of $111,280.

JFC will distribute the contributions to the Haiti relief funds of the following reputable organizations:

Direct Relief International

Save the Children

The American Red Cross International Response Fund

JA and JFC would like to thank the many industry members who participated in their fund raising efforts. Special thanks for notable donations belong to Sterling Jewelers, Tiny Jewel Box, Hearts on Fire, Richline Group, Hamilton Jewelers, Centurion Jewelry Shows, Diamonds-USA and the employees of Ben Bridge Jeweler.

According to media reports, as many as three million people (a third of Haiti’s population) may have been affected by the quake, which has caused catastrophic damage and untold loss of life. This is a critical time for the country. It is in desperate need of immediate aid for ongoing rescue efforts and to provide food, water, shelter and medical services. If you have not yet had a chance to donate, please visit the above organizations’ websites directly: www.directrelief.org, www.savethechildren.org, www.redcross.org.
